CADENCE- DESIGN, ANALYSIS AND SIMULATION OF CIRCUITS

The Department of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, Padre Conceicao College of Engineering, Verna Goa organized a one week ISTE IETE approved STTP on “Cadence- Design, Analysis and Simulation of Circuits” from 01st to 05th January 2018.

Cadence Design Systems, a dominant player in the EDA industry, develops software used to design chips and printed circuit boards, as well as intellectual properties (IP) covering a broad range of areas, including interfaces, memory, analog, SoC peripherals, dataplane processing units, and verification.

This STTP aimed at providing a detailed introduction to design, analysis and simulation of circuits using Cadence design tools. Prominent researchers and industry personnel in the above mentioned domain were invited as resource persons for the STTP.

The workshop kicked off with the inaugural function which was graced by the presence of our Director Rev. Fr. Anthony Castello, Asst. Director, Fr. Seby Rodrigues, Principal, Dr. Mahesh Parappagoudar, HOD, Dr. Jayalaxmi Devate and our chief guest Dr. K.R.Pai. Dr. Devate welcomed the dignitaries and the participants to the inaugural ceremony while Ms Rohini Korti briefed them about the workshop and the expected outcome. The compere, Ms. Mahi Itagi, then called upon the other dignitaries on the dais to share their thoughts. The key note address was then presented by Dr. K.R.Pai, an eminent academician and the Ex- HOD of the ETC department. Dr. Pai briefed the audience, which included faculty and students from various engineering institutes in Goa, about the field of microelectronics and how Cadence has been a key player in the EDA field.

Hands-on sessions in Cadence Virtuoso were conducted by Ms. Rohini Korti and Ms. Reena Fernandes, both Assistant Professors in the Department of ETC Engg. The participants were taken through the entire design flow including the schematic design entry, symbol creation, analysis, layout, DRC/LVS- check, RC extraction and finally generation of the stream file.

Mr. Akhilesh Naik, Alumini of the department and currently a research scholar at BITS Pilani, Goa Campus, got the participants exposed to the depths of the tool and its many capabilities.

The resource session presented by Mr. Shambu V, gave insights into designing and also covered the trends in the field of RF Microelectronics. Dr. Uday Wali, Director, C-Quad- Belgaum, spoke about Artificial Intelligence, the coming of disruptive technology and the need to be prepared for the same. Ms. Steffie Antao, Siemens, shared her industrial experience and put forth various aspects required of an engineer in an industrial scenario.

The Valedictory function was graced by the chief guest Dr. Dipankar Pal, Professor, BITS Pilani, Goa Campus, who also shared his knowledge in the field of Microelectronics and weighed the gain and the pains in the filed in the Indian Context. Ms. Reena Fernandes, summarized the happenings of the week long workshop after which participants came forward to give their feedback. The feedback revealed that the workshop was well received and was a success. Ms. Rohini Korti proposed the vote of thanks.

Ms. Reena Fernandes and Ms. Rohini Korti coordinated the event.
