A Field Trip to Digital Forensic Lab at Cyber Crime Cell at Ribandar, Tiswadi Goa

The students of Computer Forensics and Cyber security class along with their subject teacher Ms. Ravina Quadros had the opportunity to go on a field trip to Goa’s first Digital Forensic Lab at Cyber Crime Cell at Ribandar, Tiswadi Goa on 9th May 2022. This field trip was organized by the Department of Information Technology. In total there were 26 students from across the departments of third year and final year.

The students were introduced to Mr. Devendra Pingle, PSI of the Cyber Crime cell Goa who was also an alumnus of PCCE. He gave a brief introduction to the importance of cyber forensics, IT Act 2000 section 79 and Indian Evidence Act section 45A and qualification needed to be a Cyber Security Specialist. The students were then invited to view the lab facility to view the various softwares used in the lab. These include:-

  1. UFED 4PC with Cloud Analyser (Mobile Forensic Tool)
  2. Oxygen Detective Suite (Mobile Forensic Acquisition and Analysis Tool)
  3. Salvation Data VIP (Video, Picture and DVR Forensic Enhancement Tool)
  4. Magnet Axiom (internet forensic analysis)
  5. Encase forensic (forensic imaging of various storage devices and analysis tool)
  6. Tableau TD2U (disk duplicator/disk image)
  7. Ketan Computers CDR Pro (CDR analysis software)

The students asked various interesting question to the specialist that helped them in their laboratory sessions, internships as well as future career.

With all the knowledge gained, we can conclude that the visit to Digital Forensic Lab at Cyber Crime Cell at Ribandar was extremely successful in mapping the theoretical concepts learnt in the classroom to the industry that uses it.
