This was the 4th consecutive year that the team participated in Go-karting events like Go-Kart Design Challenge (GKDC),National Go-Kart Championship (NGKC) and International Series of Karting (ISK) which were held in different cities across the country namely Hyderabad, Coimbatore, Bangalore and Indore. It truly has been an amazing journey throughout the years gaining experience and knowledge from industry leaders in the automotive field as well as from the other teams that were a part of these events.
This year the team participated in the International Series Karting 2017 in Bangalore from the 20th to 23rd if Marchwhich was organised by a company called Mean Metal Motors Pvt. Ltd. The team secured a place in the semi finals. The event consisted of a round for Safety and technical inspection followed by braking, acceleration and manoeuvrability tests in which 24 of the 60 odd teams were selected. The races were held on the final day of the event. They were the only team from Goa to participate in this national event.

The team was formed in early December 2016 followed by the designing stage. đŸ’«Team Phoenix wins Robowars at National Level Team Phoenix is a group of engineering undergraduates from Goa, who are deeply interested and actively involved in the field of robotics and is currently the most dominating team in the field of Combat robotics in Goa. The team recently participated at the National Level Technical Event “ROBOWARS” organized by Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT Madras) under their annual Technical festival “SHAASTRA 17” and secured the first position amongst 50 combat robot teams all over India.

ROBOWARS is a battle between two custom built machines having specific dimensions and weight played inside a well-protected and a confined arena. The winner is decided by the judges whose judging criteria is well specified by a defined set of rules declared by the hosts. The Event was scheduled from 1st January till 3rd January 2017. This was the Team’s maiden outside Goa competition. The Team led by Anshul Mahale (PCCE Verna) set off from Goa on 30th December along with Devendra Bhat (GEC, Farmagudi) , Shubham Gaonkar(GEC, Farmagudi), Harsh Chotaliya (RIT, Shiroda) and Shubham Shet (PCCE, Verna) reaching Chennai on 31st along with the team’s well modified war machine for the event “SUAREZ” in a disassembled state. On reaching a day before the Mega event at the venue, the team assembled the war robot and kept it battle ready. The event started on the first day of the New Year and the Team’s war robot Suarez made a start of the year with a striking victory in the first round dominating the opponent’s robot throughout the 3 minutes of game time and entered the 2nd round which held the same day in the evening. The 2nd round battle was the most awaited battle of the day as Suarez faced the last years Runners up and a very dominating team in the field from Pune (team EDM). In the beginning Suarez suffered some blows from the opponents but it managed to come back in the battle with a bang and eventually destroyed the other making the crowd stand up and cheer for the Team and the first day’s competition ended.

On the 2nd day the team successfully cleared round 3 which was the Quarter finals. It was the fastest finish of Suarez and also of the competition as it thrashed the opponent’s robot forcing them quit the battle in just 10 seconds of the start of the battle thus entering the Semifinals. The semifinals were scheduled on 3rd and Suarez faced one of the toughest teams of the event, but the beast managed to dominate their war robot throughout the game time hitting it hard and breaking the setups one by one till the battle ended and entered in the Finals. Suarez had become the attraction of the event and the most favourite robot in the crowd. The finals were held the same day and Suarez once again put up a great show in front of the hall and triumphed in the end. The event ended with Suarez walking victorious.

The team received appreciation from the audience, the organizers and all the well wishers. This event was the team’s debut National level event outside Goa and achieving the topmost position was a herculean task and accomplishing it raised the team’s confidence significantly. The team members showed great amount of commitment, dedication and fortitude while battling inside the arena as well as repairing the battle wounds of their own and preparing the robot for next battle. Apart from the Robowars Team Phoenix was also represented in the event “Maze Solver Robot” under Programmable robot by Team’s newly joined and youngest member Mrugank Pednekar (Sharada Mandir, Panjim), who also did a splendid job with his robot astounding the organisers and the other participants with his 4th fastest moving robot amongst the other competitors all over the country.
