 Kurukshetra 2022

đź’« Like every year, this year too Padre Conceicao College of Engineering hosted its  enthusiastic annual sports event  Kurukshetra 2022 – an intra mural sporting festival of PCCE where 16 teams participated with great fervour and manifested their athletic skills with an unimpeachable finesse to win the ultimate trophy of Kurukshetra  2022. The event was divided into 2 main categories: Convential sports and Mini Kuru. Convential sports comprised of Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Control cricket, Tug of war and Athletics. Under athletics we had 100mt and 400mt run, discuss throw, shotput, vertical jump and standing broad jump. Mini Kuru was a convivial event for non athelets who don’t like to sweat  alot but were willing to contribute to the class points.  In addition, we had indoor games such as badminton, table tennis, carom, chess, rope skipping and Esport – FIFA. Mini Kuru consisted of 13 amusing games which were out of the box  selected randomly from a pool of 40 events.

A unique feature of this edition of Kurukshetra was that faculty members could also be a part of the squad. We came across many energetic and talented faculty members. One of the most cherishable moment was seeing our principal team up with the students for carom. The cherry on the top was to see our director, Fr Agnelo Gomes playing two final matches with the students in Table tennis and football. This event brought to light a lot of hidden gems who showcased their true potential in various disciplines.

The Chief Guest for the day, Padmashree Brahmanand Sankhwalkar an inspiration to many Goans and athelets accompanied us to declare the Sports meet open. Talking about role models, we had our students bearing the torch who have represented the state and country. They were  Basketball national player: Lokesh Yadav, Karate kid: Simran Haldankar and 2 Chess internationals players: Tanad Bandodkar and Shane Braganca.

Kurukshetra 2022 saw the highest participation from the last few years, with a count of 750+ students. Over the 3 days, we organised 240+ games for students and faculty. Everyone was overflowing with excitement and spilling joy. However, a storm on the eve of kurukshetra did disrupt the setup but it couldn’t dull the spirit of the Pacers.

To refill our hearts with strength and motivation, we had amongst us Dr. Savio Fernandes, the Director of Physical Education at MES College, Vasco. The last day of kurukshetra witnessed the toughest match for Tug of War between BE MECH and BE COMP. At the end of the third day, BE MECH emerged victorious with the highest cumulative score and held the trophy of Kurukshetra as high as they celebrated their win. The Arjuna award for best male athlete for an all round performance in team and individual sports was presented to Shubhankar Bhonsle from BE MECH and the Yoddha award for best female athlete was presented to Ananya Sharma from BE COMP.

The event was an immense success with everyone returning back with sportsmanship spirit.
