PACERS SAVE SOIL MOVEMENT

The students of Padre Conceicao College of Engineering in association with the Indian Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air conditioning Engineers (ISHRAE) Goa Chapter organised an awareness program, “Pacers Save Soil Movement” which is a global initiative to spread awareness about the deteriorating soil condition. The “Save Soil” movement was initiated by Sadguru Jaggi Vasudeva to address the current-day soil crisis, by bringing together people from around the globe to stand up for soil health. The movement is being supported by leaders of across nations, to institute national policies and actions toward increasing the organic content in cultivable soil.

The dignitaries present for the event were Regional Director West – I for ISHRAE Mr Mihir Sanghvi, Environmentalist Mr Rajendra Kerkar, Member of Isha Foundation Mrs Maura Afonso, President of ISHRAE Goa chapter Mr. Balkrishna Chodankar, Principal Dr Mahesh Parappagoudar and Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering Dr Geethalakshmi K. The event was held under the guidance of the student’s activity chair of ISHRAE Goa chapter, Mr Mohnish Borker.

A short film produced by students titled “Bhangar Bhui” was released during the occasion, wherein, students, faculty members and local farmers voiced out their opinions on the need to conserve soil.

A plant swap program was conducted between the PCCE faculty members and students to promote soil conservation at a local level. The event concluded with a street play that was performed by the students, highlighting the need to preserve soil.
