Workshop on “Modelling-based Estimation Problem-solving using MEttLE”

PhD Research Scholars from IDP-Edtech, IIT-Bombay – Ms. Rumana Pathan, Mr. Daevesh Singh and Mr. Debarshi Nath visited PCCE Goa on 16th and 18th June, as part of a research to understand how learners can self-regulate their learning on the MEttLE platform. They were accompanied by Dr. Ashwin TS, Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at IDP-Edtech, IIT-Bombay. Ms. Rumana Pathan is an alumnus of Department of Computer Engineering, PCCE.

The research was conducted in the form of a workshop on “Modelling-based Estimation Problem-solving using MEttLE” for Mechanical and ETC students.

In this workshop, the participants learned to estimate the approximate values of a physical quantity in a physical system. They were exposed to MEttLE, a modelling-based estimation learning environment, that elicited the novice learners to carry out modelling tasks, by providing explicit model-building subgoals and focus questions. The intermittent metacognitive prompts helped the learners to plan, monitor, and reflect while learning.

All the participants were given certificates. Six students – Adita Sardessai, Pragati Lotliker, Dhanush Kumar, Harishchandra Kolambkar, Saideep Naik and Biswajit Sahoo participated in a “Think Aloud” session and were given a stipend for their good cooperation
