SECOMP students visited CSIR- NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF OCEANOGRAPHY

The Second year Computer Engineering students of Padre Conceicao College of Engineering College,Verna, Goa visited CSIR- NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF OCEANOGRAPHY, Donapaula on 10th October 2023.

Mrs. Sharon Tracy Gomes, senior technical officer from the department of Publication Reprography and Outreach (PR&O) briefed the students on how the exploration of the Indian Ocean began and NIO’s key role in it. The students were shown video’s which enlightened about Marine Robots. The video described the Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) “Maya,” a major solution in investigating the inaccessible corners of the ocean. It is fitted with sensors and has a low drag coefficient to aid in its task. Additionally, it also exhibited the Autonomous Vertical Profiler (AVP), a fast and cost effective robot used in coastal waters. Further, a video was shown displaying RV Sindhu Sadhana, an indigenously built ship that is a major floating institution, fully fitted with scientific equipment for research.

To conclude trip students were taken to see the research and discoveries in visual form. Archaeological artifacts, various marine specimens Robots, live fish and charts depicting vital ocean and NIO information was put on display in this room.

The students were accompanied by Computer faculties coordinator Mr. Lance de Melo and Ms. Meghana Pai Kane.
