NSS Day was celebrated at PCCE on the 24th of September 2019. We organized
- Garbage cleaning drive
- Poster competition on the Theme: Jal Shakti abhiyan
The event was open for all the NSS volunteers. The event was lead by our faculty members Mr. Dattaprakash Vernekar (NSS Programme Officer) and Ms. Linnet D’Silva (Staff coordinator) along with the student representative Ms. Saily Shirodkar (TEIT).
A total number of 67 NSS Volunteers (49 male and 18 female) participated in the event. These volunteers were divided into two teams. The students met the Verna Village Panchayat Sarpanch, Mr. Antonio Da Costa along with the other Panch members, Ms. Loren Fernandes and Mr. Gabriel Fernandes, who warmly welcomed them at the Verna Panchayat and provided them with gloves and garbage bags.
Accompanied by the Sarpanch, the Panch members & the faculty, one student volunteer group went to Ward 1 while the other was sent to Ward 4. Here the teams in each ward were given garbage bags and were asked to pick a spot that they were going to clean. This procedure was followed in every area of the two wards and after hours of tedious cleaning they were able to collect a lot of garbage (plastic products, paper, aluminum and other waste materials hazardous to the environment). The collected garbage was handed over to Verna Panchayat for segregation, disposal and recycling. The student volunteers were commended for their excellent efforts and were provided with refreshments by the Panchayat and the college.
