FINAL YEAR MECHANICAL STUDENTS VISIT SYNTEGON, VERNA

Our Final Year Mechanical Engineering students visited Syntegon Technology India Private Limited, Verna, on 6th December 2021. They were accompanied by their Mechanical faculty, Asst. Prof. Marvin Fernandes and Asst. Prof. Dattaprakash Vernekar.
During the visit, they learnt about the company’s work system, different instruments involved and management. They were given a tour of the company, and were shown and explained about the various departments.
The work flow started from Logistics Department, where items like fasteners, consumables like lubrication and catalogue items were received. These items are checked for the correct quantity and given unique bar codes. Next, came the Quality Department. Here they check the dimensions of each manufactured item using tools like Vernier callipers, slip gauges, CMM and instruments to measure the roundness of an object. In the Storage Department, they used vertical storage facility. This type of storage helps to store more items in limited land space. The storage is done using machines. Unique bar code helps to locate item easily. The software used to perform this task is PPA, which is the custom modification of SAP. Next was the Manufacture and Assembly department. In this department there were a number of machines undergoing assembly process. Most of the assembly was done by workers, since they followed project-based assembly. That is, two machines would have multiple variations due to different customer demand. The various machines that were undergoing assembly process were vertical form fill seal machines (bagger, dozer), horizontal machines (metal detectors, fill and seal machines). These machines receive control panels from Siemens, Rockwell and Allen-Bradley. These machines are mostly bought by companies like ITC, Nestle and Mondelez.
Next, the students were shown PDS (Product Distribution System) machine. This helps to regulate the product flow over the assembly line in the required manner. They were also shown Secondary Packaging Machine. This machine provides a cardboard covering to a previously wrapped product. There is also a Customer Experience department where they understand the needs of the customer, provide demo to the customers, and further make changes to the existing machines to fit customer requirements. They also had a section for Controlled Environment Testing, where the required temperatures were maintained and required humidity was achieved. After completion of testing the built machine was disassembled and sent to the customer site by the logistic department. This disassembled machine is then re-assembled at the customer site and again tested.
With all the knowledge gained, we can conclude that the visit to Syntegon Technology India Private Limited was extremely successful.
