WEBINAR ON ‘RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT’

Research Development and Consultancy Centre of PCCE in collaboration with CIBA, Verna organized an online Panel Discussion on ‘Research and Development’ on 25th September 2020 at 3pm using Google meet.

The panelists for the event were:
1. Dr. Bidyadhar Subudhi, Dean (Research and Development), Professor, School of Electrical Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology, Goa.
2. Dr. Sushil Thali, Dean (Research and Development), Professor, Fr. C. Rodrigues Institute of Technology, Department of Electrical Engineering, Vashi, Navi Mumbai.
3. Dr. Niyan Marchon, Head- Research and Development and Consultancy Center, Associate Professor, ETC Department, PCCE, Verna, Goa. Post-Doctoral Fellow- Scholar, School of Electrical Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology- Goa.

The panel discussion started at 3pm wherein Mr. Rajiv Burman, Manager at CIBA welcomed the participants and Dr. Mahesh Parappagoudar, Principal of PCCE welcomed the panellists.

Dr. Marchon presented the Vision, Mission and the objectives of the RDC center at PCCE stressing on the focus of the RDCC in advancing interdisciplinary research in emerging areas among faculty and students.

Dr. Bidyadhar Subudhi spoke about research in academic institutions, types of research, the methodology of research. He gave the participants an idea on how to commercialize research outcomes. He touched upon the process of research, how teaching and research can be linked was explained to the participants. He also spoke about research grants, sponsored research, Funding agencies, plagiarism and forms of academic plagiarism. He also gave an insight into Impact factor, h index and i-index to the participants.

Dr. Thale spoke about the relevance of R & D and Industrial consultancy to private technical institutes and University affiliated institutes. He elaborated on the challenges in industry consulting assignments and shared his experiences in the journey of research. Prof. Thale stressed on the need for strong faculty motivation, team building with students and co faculty members, identifying domains of interest and gave specific examples on how it was done at their institute. Prof. Thale also said the students have to be motivated and start thinking of implementation of the projects with the support of faculty mentors.

Mr. Rajiv Burman said there are plenty of opportunities for students who have ideas and want to do product development at CIBA, Verna. Earlier Prof Joe Kurian and Prof Anusha Pai introduced the panelists.
