GOA SHIPYARD LIMITED

The second year students of the Electronic and Telecommunication department had the opportunity of visiting Goa Shipyard Limited on 12 August 2016. We were shown a short film about Goa Shipyard which highlighted the different manufacturing processes, projects undertaken and equipments used. We were then taken to the Steel Preparation Shed and Machine Shop where we were shown the cutting edge technology like the Hydraulic Brake Press, Plasma Cutting, Milling Machine and The Horizontal Body Machine. Next we proceeded to the assembly place where we got to learn about the processes involved in assembling a ship. This was followed by a tour of the dockyard where we saw different kinds of ships. We were fortunate enough to be taken on board an Indian Coastguard Ship where we were shown the engine room and the bridge. The field trip was indeed an exciting and educative experience.
