PCCE CONDUCTS INDUSTRIAL VISIT FOR 350 STUDENTS AT THE VERNA INDUSTRIAL ESTATE
The Training and Placement Office (TPO) of Padre Conceicao College of Engineering (PCCE) organized an industrial field trip on 2nd August 2019. It involved students from six Engineering classes visiting four different reputed companies in Verna Industrial Estate.
The third and final year mechanical students (TE Mech & BE Mech) visited Bosch Ltd, Packaging Technology Division, while the final year students from Computer and Information Technology department (BE Comp & BE IT) visited Persistent Systems Ltd. (PSL). The third year of the Electronics and Telecommunication department (TE ETC) visited Siemens Ltd, while the final year of the same department (BE ETC) visited Optel Group. The field trip was for a duration of around 2 hours in each of the companies. The following faculty accompanies the students. Mr. Mohnish Borkar , Ms. Fiona Coutinho , Ms Oskstyn Rodrigues , Ms Santushti Betegeri and Mr. Enrich Braz. The entire industrial visit was coordinated by Dr. Niyan Marchon, Head of the Training and Placement office.
Mechanical students visiting Bosch Ltd, Packaging Technology Division were explained the entire Supply Chain of the product from the purchase of raw materials to delivery of the final assembled machines at the plant. Students also got an opportunity to know some of the latest aspects in manufacturing and assembly, which are followed in an organization of international repute. At the same time students were also made familiar with some of the widely used mechatronic elements such as Pneumatic Valves, PLC’S, and Pneumatic Cylinders etc.
The students at PSL were given an introduction to the company’s work environment and a corporate overview which covered product development, technologies used, awards in technology training and innovation, growth of employees in PSL, transformations in technologies and revenue since inception in 1990.
At Siemens Ltd, the ETC students were briefed on the three main units in the Goa branch which consisted of Distribution, CRP and Energy Automation. Students experienced firsthand all the steps involved in PCB design, manufacturing and testing. Final year Students at Optel Group were briefed about the company’s devices and machines for the purpose of serialization, identification of medicines & pharmaceutical drugs. The students witnessed two finished devices ‘Carton Tracker’ and ‘Bottle Tracker’ where the products were marked, stamped with unique identification code. The point which the company employee’s mainly stressed upon during the interaction was the finding solution to the issues the client is facing, best suitable configuration for the same and validation of the finished product.
The group of students from PCCE through this industrial visit were able to understand professional ethics, norms of the engineering practice and the need to communicate effectively with the engineering community. They were also able to recognize the need for life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change.
