NSS ORIENTATION DAY & VAN MAHOTSAV, 10TH AUGUST 2019

He who plants a tree, plants a hope’, – We the students of Padre Conceicao College of Engineering as responsible citizens of the society aim to plant a seed of hope and goodwill towards nature. On 10th August, 2019, Padre Conceicao College of Engineering launched an extensive event of Tree Plantation on the occasion of Van Mahotsav, under the National Service Scheme (NSS) in collaboration with ‘Pro Active Goans’ at college campus. The purpose of tree plantation is to save the endangered environment and to beautify our life. Trees are valuable gifts of nature. The lives of men and other animals and insects are inconceivable without the existence of trees in the world. Trees absorb (CO2) and give us (O) without which no living being can live. As we all know that the whole world is burning in the fire of the global warming thus planting trees can help us recover slow but surely.

The event was marked with the welcoming of Our Principal Dr Mahesh B. Parappagoudar, Heads of Department, NSS Programme Officer Mr Dattaprakash G Vernekar, Ms Linnet D’silva and members of Pro Active Goans. Welcome speech was given by the ladies represented Saily Shirodkar and NSS Student Coordinator Vaibhav Kudalkar highlighting the purpose of plantation drive followed by the Principal’s advice to volunteers to think differently for the Society to make positive changes and to make a difference. Mr. Nehal Vasta (Former NSS Representative & member of Pro Active Goan) in his speech, highlighted that preservation of nature has become an integral part of our life due to the present day numerous environmental challenges. These motivational words were followed by strong actions, the principal and the director each planted a plant sampling.

Ms. Linnet D’Silva orients the NSS volunteers by notifying the importance of NSS for them as well as society. She shared her experiences with volunteers and our motives. She also said that the dedication is must to accomplish the goals. Prof. Dattaprakash Vernekar proposed the vote of thanks.

After the inspirational words of our teachers and Principal we all move towards the place where tree plantation took place. The students were divided into two teams, one team allotted the college parking lot and the other team was required to perform plantation in the Agnel ashram campus, on the uphills. There plants were provided by Pro Active Goans under the leadership of Mr. Gaurak Phadessai and Mr. Nehal Vasta which included fruit bearing plants and medicinal trees as well. The teams righteously performed the task. In all 73 NSS Volunteers (20 female & 53 male) participated in the event.
All were satisfied and experienced a proud feeling after the tree plantation event was completed, because it really feels great to do something positive for nature. On this high end our motive ended.
