REPORT ON WEBINAR ON RESEARCH TOPIC : “AN INTRODUCTION TO SUB-NYQUIST CO-PRIME SAMPLING” BY DR. USHAM DIAS

The Research Development and Consultancy Centre (RDCC) of Padre Conceicao College of Engineering (PCCE Verna) kickstarted PACER XPLORE Webinar Series with its first talk on the research topic : “An Introduction to Sub-Nyquist Co-prime Sampling”. The esteemed speaker for the webinar was Dr. Usham Dias. The webinar was held on 9th October 2020 at 3 p.m.

Dr. Usham Dias received his B.E. degree in ETC at PCCE, Goa in 2009. He completed his M.Tech. from Vishwakarma Institute of Technology, Pune in 2013 and further completed his PhD degree in the Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Delhi, 2020. His Thesis title was “Sub-Nyquist Co-Prime Sensing: Too Little cannot Belittle You”. He has interest in academia and has previously worked as a faculty at PCCE, GEC, and Bhalchandra Technologies, Goa. His research interests are in Signal Processing and Signal Acquisition.

There were 100 attendees for the webinar (mostly students and some faculty and industry personnel). Mr. Enrich Braz welcomed the audience to the webinar, followed by a brief introduction of the webinar’s speaker by Dr. Niyan Marchon, Head of RDCC.

Dr. Usham started the presentation by refreshing the audience on basic concepts like Fourier Transform, Nyquist Sampling and autocorrelation. He enlightened the students the various applications of the various concepts and further dived in to explain some new concepts like co-prime sampling and sub-Nyquist sampling. Each concept was backed with easy practical applications so as to make the content more palatable for the budding tech enthusiasts.
There was a small Q&A session where Dr. Usham tried to answer any questions or doubts the students had. The talk ended with a vote of thanks proposed by Mr. Arpit Kashyap, a student of BE-ETC.
