PCCE NSS UNIT ORGANISES WALKATHON ON GANDHI JAYANTI
PCCE NSS Unit organised a Walkathon cum awareness drive from PCCE Campus to Verna village to mark the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on 2nd of October 2019. The event was organised as part of the Fit India Plogging programme launched by Hon’ Prime Minister of India. The purpose of this drive was to create awareness among the villagers of Verna about Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and Fit India Movement. The event was organised under the leadership of NSS Programme Officer Mr. Dattaprakash Vernekar, Ms. Linnet D’Silva (COMP Dept), Mr. Aaron Pereira (sports Officer) and student coordinator Ms. Saily Shirodkar (TEIT)
Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi is well known for his special attention towards his fitness and activeness. Yoga is one of his daily routine and he never skips it. But this time, besides his own fitness he has asked people of India to take care of their fitness. The fit India movement was launched on 24th August 2019 by our Hon’ Prime Minister. Plogging as a concept brings together fitness and cleanliness as participants pick up plastic and other waste from road while jogging.
The Walkathon cum Awareness Drive’ started at 9.00 am from PCCE Campus, A total of 36 NSS volunteers (7 girls and 29 boys) accompanied by 3 staff members participated in the drive. Students carried placards, posters and banners portraying the importance of cleanliness and Fit India. Students also called out different slogans along the way. The Walkathon ended with street Play on the topic ‘Swacchta Hi Seva’ for the general public at two Prime location in the village of Verna. The audience gathered appreciated the NSS students for their effort and dedication by which they performed the street play to spread awareness on Swatchata Hi Seva. The drive ended at 12.00Noon.
