TALK ON NATURAL LANGUAGE PROCESSING
The Student Unit of Information Technology (SUIT) organized a talk on 16th March 2023. The two-hour interactive session was held in the IT CC lab and commenced at 10 AM. The speaker of the session was Dr.Ramparasad S Joshi, Assistant Professor at BITS Pilani, K K Birla Goa Campus. He has a Ph.D. in Mathematics and Computer science and has expertise in programming at all levels from system programming to AI, Natural Language Processing, and Computational Linguistics.
The event was graced by the presence of Dr. Shailendra Aswale, HoD of the I.T. Department, SUIT faculty in charge, and teachers of the IT department . The event was compered by Kripa Davidson and Ashleesha Vajandar, Executive members of SUIT. They welcomed the gathering, the speaker, and all the dignitaries. The speaker was presented with a flower bouquet by Dr.Shailendra Aswale and the host introduced thespeaker and the topic of natural language processing.
Natural language processing (NLP) refers to the branch of computer science and more specifically, the branch of AI concerned with giving computers the ability to understand text and spoken words in much the same way human beings can. The speaker introduced the rule-based modeling of human language and explained the fundamentals of natural language processing. Furthermore, he gave the students anunderstanding of how computer programs translate text from one language to another, respond to spoken commands, and rapidly summarize large volumes of text—even in real-time.
The talk was interactive and most of the queries of the participants were answered by the speakers. The session concluded with a vote of thanks given by Darshan Nair, president of SUIT, and the memento was presented to the speaker by Dr.Shailendra Aswale, HOD of the IT department.
