ACM Workshop on Augmented Reality using Unity
A workshop on Augmented Reality (AR) using Unity, was organized by the ACM Student Chapter of Padre Conceicao College of Engineering on 20th March 2024, 2:00 to 5:00 pm in COMP Lab 2. The event aimed to introduce participants to the fundamentals of AR development using Unity and Vuforia.
The workshop commenced with an introduction to Augmented Reality. This was followed by an overview of Unity, a popular platform for AR development, and Vuforia, a software development kit (SDK) for building AR applications.
In the first project, participants were introduced to creating interactive AR experiences by implementing touch input functionality within Unity. A 3D model of a dog was utilized to demonstrate this concept. Attendees were guided through the development process and then had the opportunity to deploy and interact with the 3D dog using the touch input on their phones.
The second project focused on image target tracking, a fundamental aspect of AR development. Participants learned how to use Vuforia to track specific images and overlay digital content onto them. A demonstration was provided by the team. The attendees were allowed to interact with the project they developed.
A total of 35 participants from F.E., S.E. and T.E. Computer Engineering attended the workshop. Throughout the workshop, attendees participated in hands-on exercises to reinforce their learning. The workshop provided participants with valuable insights into AR development using Unity and Vuforia, empowering them to explore and create immersive AR experiences.
The workshop was conducted by a team of B.E. Computer Engineering students comprising of Mr. Austin Furtado, Mr. Daniel Chandy, and Mr. Melrick Pereira under the guidance of Mr. Lance De Melo (Assistant Prof., Dept of Computer Engg). It was successfully coordinated by Ms. Louella Mesquita (Faculty sponsor, PCCE ACM Student chapter) and Ms. Meghana Pai Kane, both faculty members in the Computer Engineering Department along with Ms. Sasha Madkaikar, President of the PCCE ACM Student chapter. The workshop ended with distribution of certificates by Dr. Anusha Pai (HOD, Department of Computer Engineering).
