Driving the Future: Software’s Role in Modern Mobility
On September 25, 2025, from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm, Mr. Livio Mascarenhas, an alumnus of PCCE, class of 2025 from VISTEON, delivered an insightful guest lecture titled “Driving the Future: Software’s Role in Modern Mobility” for 74 students of the T.E A2 class., the session commenced with a warm welcome to Mr. Livio Mascarenhas by Assistant Professor Ms. Gauri Barve, along with Ms. Farah Cutchi, a student from the class, introducing the speaker.
Mr. Mascarenhas highlighted the automotive industry’s shift from hardware-centric to software-defined vehicles, exemplified by Tesla, and driven by platforms like Autosar, QNX, and Linux Foundation tools. These platforms enable advanced applications such as Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) for enhanced safety, autonomous driving technologies for self-driving capabilities, and electric vehicles (EVs) for sustainable mobility.
He emphasized the role of Over-the-Air (OTA) updates, which deliver seamless feature enhancements and extend vehicle lifespan remotely. The integration of Cognitive AI and Edge AI assistants was showcased, enabling localized, real-time decision-making through edge-native processing, context-aware intelligence adapting to driving conditions, and immersive user experiences via interactive 3D avatars and IoT-driven projects. While challenges like safety, complexity, and cybersecurity persist, the future points towards vehicles as dynamic, intelligent platforms offering safer, smarter, and more immersive experiences
The lecture underscored software’s pivotal role in revolutionizing transportation, offering safer, smarter, and more immersive mobility solutions despite ongoing challenges, leaving the students inspired by the future of automotive innovation.
The session highlighted that the automotive world is becoming increasingly software-driven. From OTA updates to AI-based assistants and autonomous driving, software is central to innovation in mobility. This session was organized by Ms. Gauri Barve and Ms. Shruti Samant, class teachers of T.E A2.
