Field Trip to NCPOR, Headland Sada, Vasco, Goa

On Monday, March 18th 2024, TPO & Computer engineering dept., PCCE organized an educational field trip to the National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR) at Headland Sada, Vasco, Goa, for students of divisions A1 (72 students) and A2(67 students), FE Computer Engineering Department (Total=72+67=139 students).

The bus departed from PCCE at 10:15 AM and arrived at NCPOR Vasco at 10:50 AM. Accompanied by faculty coordinators Asst. Prof. Ms. Komal Paroolkar and Asst. Prof. Ms. Manasi Raut from Basic science & humanities dept., Asst. Prof. Ms. Ramita Karpe and Asst. Prof. Mr. Shubham Borkar from Computer engineering dept.. Upon arrival at NCPOR, we were courteously directed to their auditorium. The session commenced with an enlightening talk by Dr. Swati Nagar, Project Scientist at NCPOR Goa, gave valuable insights into the institute’s primary activities, including its pivotal role in polar and southern ocean research. Also shed a light on the intricate interplay between sea ice, ocean, and climate, offering glimpses into the lives of scientists engaged in such research endeavours. Followed by Mr. V. Sakthivel Samy, Scientist-F at NCPOR Goa, elaborated on the practical applications of data science and computing in oceanic and polar exploration and gained a profound understanding of the inherent complexity in computational methodologies applied within these domains. The session concluded with Mr. Samy’s informative discourse, after which we were treated to refreshments and group photographs. Our departure from NCPOR at 1:50 PM marked end of a captivating and enriching field trip. We arrived back at our college by 2:30 PM, the field trip proved to be both educational and enjoyable, leaving us with a heightened appreciation for the intricacies of polar and oceanic research. We eagerly looked forward to participating in similar endeavours in the future.
